Improvisation and composition
My class begins with a specific starting point: you must locate where you are in the present moment by way of exercising “authentic movement.” By learning to listen to your body, you discover your environment and become more spontaneous. One of the goals of improvisation is to expose you to a different perspective of performance where vulnerability is part of the artist’s sense of being. You will learn how to work body and mind in time and space through the practice of dance improvisation, and you will learn to make creative choices in the flow of the performance.
