Ntsikelelo “Boyzie” Cekwana Soweto born, Boyzie started his dance training with Carly Dibakoane in Meadowlands. A wannabe “collaborator”, he has collaborated with artists in South Africa, Mozambique, Madagascar and abroad such as American/Belgian artist, Davis Freeman, musician Madala Kunene, French lighting designer Eric Wurtz, Canadians Guglielmo Bernardi and Melanie Demers, among others. His work has been presented at the exclusive Theatre de la Ville, Paris, ImpulsTanz, in Vienna, Montpellier International Festival de Danse and the Lyon Biennale. He has been invited to lead classes and hold workshops in Brest, Vienna, Glasgow, Lisbon, Maputo, Nancy, Nairobi, as well as in various South African Educational Institutions including the University of Cape Town and the Pretoria Technikon. Until recently, he was Artistic Director of the
Jomba! Contemporary Dance Festival, in Durban, SA. He is currently involved in the creation of a regional, southern African collaborative with artists in Mozambique, Madagascar, the DRC, La Reunion and Zimbabwe. After a two year hiatus from performing and creating, he is working on his newest project, a trilogy which begins with the solo,
Influx Controls: I wanna be wanna be. This work will premiere at the Zurcher TheaterSpektakel in August.
